The mission

One strawberry, start to finish, with nobody watching.

That's the whole benchmark. A system that decides when to plant, when to water, when to intervene, and when the fruit is ready — without a human in the loop and without a subscription in the way.

Perceive

Commodity cameras and cheap sensors on salvaged compute. Plant health, soil moisture, growth stage, pest pressure — read continuously, no proprietary hardware required.

Decide

Open models that reason about a specific plant in a specific bed on a specific day. Every weight published. Every decision inspectable.

Act

Water, feed, prune, and harvest through actuators built from published plans and off-the-shelf parts. Repairable with a screwdriver, not a service contract.

Share

Every run produces data that improves the next build for everyone. The system gets better because it's open, not despite it.

How it works

Three constraints we refuse to break.

Hardware

Salvaged first

Retired datacenter compute, secondhand cameras, surplus parts. If a build requires new specialty hardware, it isn't finished yet.

Software

Open weights, open plans

Models, firmware, CAD, and bill of materials published together. A fork should be able to grow food, not just compile.

Access

No gate, ever

No license tiers, no cloud dependency, no phone-home. The nonprofit structure exists specifically to make monetization impossible later.

The technology to automate food production already exists. It is expensive on purpose. We are removing the purpose.

Published by default

Code, weights, and hardware plans go public as they're built — not after a funding round.

Runs offline

No cloud requirement. A grower with no internet still has a working system.

Repairable

Commodity parts, documented failure modes, no sealed assemblies.

No data extraction

Grow data belongs to the grower. Contribution is opt-in and anonymized.

Irrevocably licensed

Permissive licensing on release means no future board can close it.

Measured honestly

Failed runs get published alongside successful ones. Yield claims come with methodology.
